Defender Harry Maguire has defended his Manchester United record stating his win percentage under Erik Ten Hag is ridiculous. However, Maguire hasn’t received his chances in the starting XI under the Dutchman. Before the start of the ongoing season, Maguire was also stripped of his captaincy duties by the gaffer.
The Englishman could only play 16 matches across competitions in the last season for the Red Devils. Out of these 16 matches, United won a total of 12 games, thus they had a winning percentage of 75% with Maguire in the side.
In fact, Maguire had done a decent job for England in the FIFA World Cup 2022 but he was not included in the Red Devils’ starting XI on a consistent basis.
Maguire has hinted that he might look to sign with another club in the January transfer window if he doesn’t get his chances in the playing XI for Manchester United.
Speaking at St George’s Park ahead of England’s friendly against Australia on Friday, Maguire said: “It’s not my decision to whether I start the next game or not. I’m unsure on that. I’m sure in a couple of weeks I’ll go back and find out.
“If you look back on my last 15-20 starts for club and country, I would be happy to sit here and say I’m really happy with my performances.
“My record under this manager speaks for itself. I haven’t started as many games as I like, but my win percentage when I’ve played is ridiculously high.
“Of course, there are times when I could do more and times when I could improve and help the team.
“But I’m just wanting to help the team, I’m wanting to help the team get out of this position we’re in at the moment. Hopefully we can do that in the coming weeks.”
The defender added he is going to have a discussion with the management regarding his place in the team.
“I am not going to sit here all my life and play once a month and if it carries on I am sure myself and the club will sit down and have a chat about things,” said Maguire.
England will take on Australia on Friday night at the Wembley Stadium in a friendly.
