Olympique de Marseille have begun disciplinary action against Adrien Rabiot and Jonathan Rowe.
The development follows a heated altercation after Friday night’s defeat away to Rennes in the Ligue 1 season opener.
A report by RMC Sport said Rowe allegedly slapped the French international, leading to a tense dressing room atmosphere, as the pair went head-to-head.
It was gathered that teammates and staff had to intervene in the melee.
According to reports, verbal exchange escalated into threats between the paid, which pushed the club’s hierarchy to step in.
The consequence of their action has caused them temporary exclusion from the first-team squad.
Although the suspension may not last long, this is a clear message from the club’s management that such behaviour will not be tolerated.
Although further action has not been taken by Marseille, they could also ask the duo to donate to the club’s foundation as a gesture of reconciliation.
As things stand, the pair will miss training at La Commanderie on Monday afternoon as the rest of the squad reconvenes.
Marseille lost their 2025-2026 season opener after conceding to an injury-time strike from Ludovic Blas in a match in which they dominated possession of the ball.
What the club is yet to decide is how long the exclusions of Rabiot and Rowe will last. The club could also fine the two weeks ‘ wages.
Les Phocéens will be facing Paris FC at the Stade Vélodrome next Saturday.
Roberto De Zerbi will hope this doesn’t affect their season, which will also involve participation in the UEFA Champions League.
They will have an opportunity to get their first three points of the season against the promoted side that also suffered a 1-0 loss against ten-man Angers.
Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain began their title defences with a 1-0 win at Nantes.
