Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta has admitted that Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz’s dominance in 2023 is not a surprise. While Djokovic won the Australia Open, Roland Garros, and US Open, Alcaraz won the Wimbledon in the ongoing season of 2023.
The two have also shared an exciting rivalry and they have kept the fans on the edge of their seats. While the young Spaniard defeated Djokovic in a thrilling Wimbledon final, the Serbian got his revenge in the Cincinnati Open final.
Both Alcaraz and Djokovic have dominated the other players in the ongoing season and they seem to be always one step ahead of their opponent.
“I couldn’t tell you, honestly. Djokovic has continued as he was, Carlos has maintained the level that he had been having last year. Maybe that might surprise someone, but not me,” Pablo Carreno Busta said in conversation with Punto de Break when asked about the current state of the tour.
Busta reckons that young players like Jannik Sinner and Holger Rune are also coming up in the ranks on the tour.
“There have been young players like Sinner, who seems to have taken a little step further. Rune, although he hasn’t won many games in recent months, has also improved… Everything has been more or less similar,” he said.
Meanwhile, recently Carlos Alcaraz admitted Novak Djokovic is on his mind in every practice session.
“[He is on my mind] Almost in every practice, I’m not gonna lie, I practice with a goal, I go to a tournament with a goal. It’s trying to end the year as World No. 1,” Carlos Alcaraz said in a video on Tennis TV.
Carlos Alcaraz will take on Grigor Dimitrov in the round of 32 in the ongoing Shanghai Masters.
